The immunomodulatory effect of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the aerial parts of Cleome viscosa Linn (Capparidacea) was investigated in mice. The assessment of immunomodulatory activity was carried out by various hematological and serological tests. Extract of the plant showed significant immunosuppressant activity and administration of extract remarkably decreased the number of WBC and spleenic lymphocytes. It also decreased phagocytic index and both cellular and humoral antibody response. It is concluded that the test extract possessed promising immunosuppressant properties.
