The effect of various physical parameters and beta-cyclodextrin on the apparent rate of in situ nasal absorption of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride was studied. The apparent rate constant of the nasal absorption of ciprofloxacin HCI was independent of the rate of perfusion above a value of 2 ml/min.,molar concentration or nature of the solvent. However, it decreased with an increase in viscosity. It increased when the perfusate volume was decreased, with an increase in the temperature of perfusion solution and with an appropriate concentration of Tween 80 (0.5 percent v/v) and betacyclodextrin (1.0 percent w/v).
