Influence of some certified water soluble dyes, preservatives and surfactants on sulphamethoxazole (SMZ) bioavailability was studied on healthy human volunteers. A significant reduction in bioavailability was seen with erythrosine amongst dyes. All the preservatives used retarded the bioavailability. Least availablility was seen in the presence of benzoic acid. Anionic surfactants retarded the bioavailability to a greater extent compared to cationic surfactant.
