An extractive colorimetric method for the determination of ketoconazole from pharmaceutical preparations is described. The method is based on the formation of ion-pair complexes of the drug with reagents like bromocresol green (BCG), bromocresol purple (BCP) < bromophenol blue (BPB) and bromophenol red (BPR) in acidic medium. The ion-pair compexes formed are quantitatively extracted in chloroform. The method is statistically validated and is found to be precise and accurate.
